About

The Mission of the Santee Historical Society is:

  1. to promote awareness,and appreciation of Santee’s heritage, and history.
  2. to encourage local historical research and writing.
  3. to discover, collect and preserve historically sensitive materials.
  4. and to illustrate and perpetuate the historical heritage of the Santee area and its people.

The Santee Historical Society was established in the early 1950’s by Harriett Wade. She has the distinction of having saved the green and white 1913 Dairy Barn from destruction. The barn is now a federal historical landmark, museum, and the office the Santee Historical Society. Harriett Wade became ill in 2001 and the Santee Historical Society disappeared for almost 6 years. Elaine Murphy and Elaine Brack helped re-establish the Santee Historical Society in 2006.
