Former Teacher’s Aide at Sycamore Canyon
Helen J. Woods, age 83, of Massillon, Ohio, formerly of Santee, Calif., passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017. She was born in Akron, Ohio, on Sept. 9, 1933, to the late, Joseph and Helen (Bauer) Hiel. Helen was a Teacher’s Aide at Sycamore Canyon Elementary in Santee, Calif. for many years in the 1970’s and 1980’s.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, James Woods; daughter, Mary Catherine Sheehan; son, James “Jimmy” Woods, and five siblings. Helen is survived by her children, Suzanne (James) Manning, Thomas Woods, Theresa Woods, and John Woods; grandchildren, Daniel (Michele) Woods, Joshua Woods, Catherine (Ken) Moore, Michael Manning, and Jaymee Woods; great-grandchildren, Marylin Moore and Bodhi Woods; and brother, Robert (Loretta) Hiel.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Crossroads Hospice for their loving and compassionate care of Helen.
Cremation has taken place and a mass will be said in her honor at a later date. She will be laid to rest in Holy Cross Cemetery in Akron, Ohio at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the Mark R. Vrabel Funeral Home of North Canton, Ohio (330-452-4041).
